Performing Arts Showcase

St Patrick’s College celebrated the talent, dedication and musical development of its students at the 2026 Co-Curricular Music Showcase, held at Marie Bashir Public School on Thursday, 20 August.

The Showcase brought together musicians from across the College, from Year 5 students beginning their ensemble journey through to experienced senior musicians and Year 12 students taking part in their final Showcase. The evening was a celebration not only of performance, but of the many hours of rehearsal, practice, persistence and collaboration that take place throughout the year.

A diverse program gave the audience the opportunity to experience the breadth of music at St Patrick’s, with performances from the Senior and Junior Drumlines, Guitar Ensemble, Training Band, Junior Band, Junior Woodwind Ensemble, College Choir, Junior, Intermediate and Senior String Ensembles, Brass Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Jazz Orchestra, College Orchestra and Concert Band.

The repertoire was equally varied, spanning classical works, contemporary music, jazz, film scores and traditional concert band repertoire. Among the works performed were Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8, Rossini’s The Barber of Seville – Overture, as well as music from Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End. The Jazz Orchestra showcased the talents of both experienced and developing musicians, while the College Choir demonstrated the strong vocal tradition within the College’s Music Program.
Head of Co-Curricular Music, Dr David Taylor, reflected on the musical journey undertaken by students and the importance of ensemble performance in teaching young musicians to listen to one another, take responsibility for their individual contribution and work towards a shared goal.

The evening also highlighted the wider benefits of involvement in the College’s Co-Curricular Music Program, which provides students with opportunities to develop confidence and resilience, experience teamwork and discover the enjoyment that comes from sharing their talents with others.

Congratulations to all students who performed and to Dr Taylor and ensemble directors Mr Henry Avila, Mr Peter Drummond, Mr David Henry, Mr Matthew Pearce and Mr Mark Roulston, together with Drumline Coach Mr Antonio Barbanera, for their work in preparing the students. Thanks are also extended to the College staff, tutors and families whose ongoing support makes such opportunities possible, as well as the VET Entertainment Industry Class and Mr Daniel Shaw for supporting the evening’s sound and lighting.

The Showcase was a fitting celebration of how far the College’s young musicians have come and of the vibrant musical culture continuing to grow at St Patrick’s.
