PDHPE supports students to make informed, healthy and safe decisions by building the knowledge and skills needed to enhance their own and others’ wellbeing.
It prepares young people for a rapidly changing, increasingly sedentary world by helping them think critically about health information, social influences and physical activity choices. The subject also deepens understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples’ ways of knowing, being and doing, and how these shape personal and community health.
Through diverse movement experiences, students develop physical, cognitive, social and emotional skills that encourage lifelong participation in physical activity. PDHPE also strengthens identity, resilience and respectful relationships, while equipping students to act positively regarding consent, safety and wellbeing in both online and offline environments. By examining the factors that influence individuals, groups and communities, students build strong health literacy skills, enabling them to analyse attitudes and behaviours, evaluate health resources and advocate for the wellbeing of themselves and others.
