Languages

At St Patrick’s College, we believe that learning a language opens the door to the world.

Language study plays an important role in developing globally aware, culturally responsive young people who are prepared to engage with an increasingly interconnected world.

Our community reflects a rich diversity of linguistic and cultural backgrounds, and the study of languages allows students to explore this diversity while developing a deeper understanding of different cultures and perspectives. Through language learning, students build empathy, curiosity and respect for others while strengthening their communication skills.

Our Languages program focuses on developing confident communicators through the growth of speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. Technology is integrated into the learning process to enhance engagement and provide students with authentic access to the target language and culture.

Students who wish to study a language not offered at the College can do so through the NSW School of Languages. Courses such as Japanese, German, Chinese, Spanish and Indonesian enable students to maintain family language connections or explore a new language of interest.

The College also offers a biennial immersion experience to Italy for students in Year 10 and above, providing a valuable opportunity to practise language skills while experiencing Italian culture first-hand.
