HSIE B

The HSIE B Department provides students with meaningful opportunities to understand their world and develop the skills needed to become informed, active citizens.

Following NSW curriculum requirements, the department delivers engaging programs in Geography, Commerce, Business Studies and Economics.

In Stage 4 (Years 7–8), students build foundational geographical knowledge by exploring environments, global connections and contemporary challenges. They develop key skills in inquiry, critical thinking and spatial understanding.

In Stage 5 (Years 9–10), students deepen their learning through the study of landscapes, urbanisation, environmental change and global development. Students may also choose Commerce, where they gain practical insight into consumer law, business operations, financial decision‑making, entrepreneurship and the legal and economic frameworks that shape society.

In Stage 6 (Years 11–12), students specialise in Geography, Business Studies or Economics. Geography develops advanced research and fieldwork skills as students investigate global sustainability and human–environment interactions. Business Studies examines management, marketing, finance and human resources through real‑world case studies. Economics builds strong analytical and quantitative skills, enabling students to evaluate markets, government policy and global economic issues. These courses prepare students for university pathways and future‑focused careers.

Across all stages, HSIE B fosters curiosity, critical thinking and meaningful engagement with the modern world.
