Technological and Applied Studies (TAS) at St Patrick’s College engages students in creative and practical learning that develops problem solving, innovation and critical thinking.
Through authentic design challenges, students learn to identify needs, generate ideas, and develop solutions using modelling, prototyping, and iterative design processes. These experiences encourage students to think creatively, work collaboratively, and apply knowledge to real world contexts.
Students gain hands on experience with a wide range of materials, tools and technologies, including timber and engineering equipment, digital design tools, CAD software, 3D printers and a laser cutter used for rapid prototyping and precision fabrication. Computing based courses further develop digital capability through the use of drones, filming equipment and animation tools, enabling students to explore emerging technologies and creative digital production.
Located in the Crichton Building, the TAS faculty provides purpose-built workshops, design studios and computer laboratories that support innovation, collaboration, and practical learning. Through these experiences, students develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to pursue future pathways in design, engineering, technology and beyond.
