Mark Nawaqanitawase

Mark Nawathanitawase (Class of 2018) is a celebrated Old Boy of St Patrick’s College, Strathfield, and one of Australia’s most exciting dual-code international rugby talents.

A product of the College’s First XV, Mark’s journey from local schoolyard player to international representative embodies the tradition of development, resilience and pride that defines St Patrick’s College’s Co-Curricular Program

Mark grew up in Sydney and first showcased his athletic ability playing rugby league with the Concord-Burwood Wolves and Leichhardt Wanderers before switching to rugby union at 14. At St Patrick’s College, he quickly emerged as a standout in the 1st XV, catching the attention of talent scouts and setting the foundation for a remarkable elite career.

Mark’s professional rugby career began with Eastwood Rugby Club in the Shute Shield, leading to his Super Rugby debut with the New South Wales Waratahs. Known for his powerful running, aerial ability and instinctive wing play, he established himself as a key performer in Super Rugby before earning Wallabies honours in 2022.

In 2024, Mark expanded his career with a code switch to rugby league, signing with the Sydney Roosters in the NRL. He made an immediate impact, finishing the 2025 NRL season among the competition’s leading try-scorers and earning selection for the Australia Kangaroos in the 2025 Rugby League Ashes series - adding international league representation to his already impressive resume.

Mark has proudly represented Australia on multiple stages:

  • Wallabies (Rugby Union) – Test caps, including scoring tries at the Rugby World Cup.
  • Olympic Rugby Sevens – Competed at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, helping Australia to a strong finish in the Men’s Sevens competition.
  • Kangaroos (Rugby League) – Debuted for the national side in 2025, becoming one of a select group of dual-code internationals.

Mark’s rise from St Patrick’s College First XV to elite international sport highlights the strength of the College’s rugby culture and coaching. A dedicated and humble competitor, he continues to inspire young athletes within the college community.
