For over a decade, St Patrick’s College has been running a Winter Sleep Out, offering students a chance to step outside their comfort zones and experience life with limited resources and comforts. This event fosters empathy, shedding light on the challenges faced by hundreds of thousands of Australians and many more worldwide.
The evening also focuses on learning and debunking myths about homelessness, which now encompasses not just those without shelter, but also those struggling with very limited resources despite having a roof over their heads.
Well done to all students who took on the challenge of spending the night outside in the cold with minimal food and many moments of boredom. Special thanks to the senior students from SJAG for their hard work in planning the event, their thoughtful presentation, and their leadership in discussing respect and dignity for those living on the margins while offering actionable suggestions.
We also extend our gratitude to the staff who dedicated their personal time to make this event possible. Their dedication ensures everything runs smoothly with many being long-standing supporters of the cause.
Now is the time to turn our insights into action and explore how we can contribute to the fight against homelessness.
