St Patrick's College Strathfield

Opening College Mass

08/02/2021

On Friday 5 February, we came together to celebrate the start of the school year through Eucharist. After the Year 12 cohort warmly welcomed our new Year 5 students, our College Chaplain, Fr Jack Evans, led us in the Mass and outlined the meaning of this year’s theme chosen by our Year 12 Prefects; Just as water reflects the face, so one heart reflects another.” (Proverbs 27:19). It was the foundation for all readings, hymns and prayers and helped connect us more deeply to the EREA Touchstone of Inclusive Community.

The College Band, together with the melodic voices of our student singers; Torie Simicevic, Luke Vaccher, Julian Gatt, Elijah Mannah and Michael Bridge and our staff singers: Mr Jubb, Ms Rocca and Ms Knapman provided a beautiful backdrop to the celebration. Towards the end of the Mass, Dr Lavorato was commissioned as our new College Principal and Dr Wattam, Executive Director of EREA, welcomed her to the broader EREA family.

All of this was based upon our acknowledgement of the traditional custodians of the land as we listened to local Dharug language, and we were inspired to go forth reflecting all that is good in the world.

Following Mass, the whole community celebrated the academic achievements of the Class of 2020; the whole day bringing together our two great missions – faith and education.
