St Patrick's College Strathfield

Australasian Philosothon

21/10/2019

During the first week of the recent holidays, eight students represented St Patrick’s College at the Australasian Philosothon held at Radford College in Canberra.

Over the course of three days, the students enjoyed the opportunity to think about and discuss a variety of philosophical questions on topics such as justice, free will and knowing other people. Along with students from 18 other schools around the country, our boys also listened to speakers on topics such as critical thinking and the importance of philosophy in our daily lives.

Students from Year 8 to 11 discussed their ideas and acknowledged their agreement or disagreement with others in their small groups. Whilst the boys did not achieve a place in the competition, overall they achieved some excellent scores in a number of the philosophical discussions.
