Reconciliation Round of Competition

20/05/2019

On 17 & 18 May, St Patrick’s College celebrated our Reconciliation Round of Competition to recognise the importance of authentic reconciliation with our Aboriginal brothers and sisters. In each debate and sporting fixture, all students from Years 5 to 12, acknowledged Country and paid respects to the elders, past, present and emerging, and as a community observed some silence. The First IV Tennis, First XI Football, First XV Rugby and 16A Rugby teams wore the unique Aboriginal strip which were specially designed in conjunction with our partners St Joseph’s in Alice Springs, while our Cross Country squad and Debaters wore the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander flag badges. The staff and students of the College took a pledge at assembly on Friday leading in to this home round of competition which is the closest to Reconciliation Week (27 May – 3 June). Together, we stand for human dignity, respect, constitutional recognition and reconciliation.
