St Patrick's College Strathfield

A Welcoming Community

08/03/2019

The Year 5 Welcome Mass and Junior School Family Dinner were held on the evening of 1 March, 2019.

From the choir balcony, the entire cohort of Year 5 boys sang their hearts out for their parents in the Chapel below, setting a beautiful tone for the celebration of Mass led by Fr Jack Evans. Junior School REC Mr Phil Davis commented afterwards that it was the “most welcoming Welcome Mass” in recent memory. This was a sentiment echoed by scores of parents outside the chapel and at the meal that followed. The commissioning of the Executive Committee of the P&F was a moving moment, as these generous volunteers were presented with candles by Junior School student leaders.

After Mass, the annual Junior School Family Dinner kicked off in the College Gymnasium. As always, the P&F outdid themselves in organising an evening that enables families to make connections with other families they may not have had the chance to spend time with before. The overwhelming feedback was “What a great night!. The Year 5 and 6 students certainly enjoyed the chance to socialise over a meal. They did a great job of leading the College War Cry, though the Old Boy parents and teachers did an even better job of leading the College Anthem.

Both occasions showcased the beautiful sense of community for which St Patrick’s is well known.
