Religious Education

I have come that you may have life,

and have it to the full

Jesus of Nazareth

At the heart of the Christian Gospel is the call to live and to live fully in Jesus. Throughout the centuries Christians have lived and tried to live as Jesus showed us, fully and without fear. St Patrick’s College, named for the great Irish apostle, continues within the tradition of Jesus as interpreted and recast through the gifts of Edmund Rice and the Christian Brothers, the family he founded. Patrick used the culture of fifth century Ireland to proclaim the Gospel and Edmund did the same in Waterford thirteen hundred years later. In Strathfield, the disciples of Jesus, Patrick and Edmund walk in that same tradition and seek Christ alive within the culture of early 21st century Australia.

The Religious Education programme of St Patrick's works in partnership with all other faculties of the College. In particular, this programme works with the Spiritual Development programme to ensure a holistic, human and authentically Catholic formation of students, staff and parents.

Within the Syllabus across Stages 3 to 6 students study the depth of the Catholic tradition including History, Scripture, Theology, Mary and the Saints, Liturgy and Sacraments, the Christian spiritual traditions, Ethical and Moral teaching, Social Justice. Recognising the multi-cultural and multi-faith reality of Australian society, students spend time studying indigenous Australian Spirituality, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism and Hinduism.
