College Choirs
Excellence in Music Education is a particular focus of St. Patrick’s College, and, in saying this, it has a long tradition and outstanding reputation for its fine quality Choirs.

With all the Choirs listed below, students learn the basics of good vocal production and sightsinging techniques. It also teaches the students how to work together as they acquire poise, self-confidence and self-discipline.

LUMEN CHOIR

The Lumen Choir is made up of students in Years 5 and 6. Boys audition for this group and rehearse every Tuesday at lunchtime as a full choir and then in separate groups (Soprano one, Soprano Two and Altos) on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings, consecutively, at 7.50am. The repertoire of the Lumen Choir ranges from popular music through to Classical and Church music.

Some of the major performances for the Lumen Choir are the Year 5 Welcome Mass, Eisteddfods, Easter Liturgy, Assemblies, Thanksgiving Mass, Festival of Carols, and, of course, one of the biggest events of the year, being Speech Night.

CHAPEL CHOIR

The Chapel Choir is a select group of students ranging from Years 5 to Year 12. They are renowned particularly for their angelic voices which accompany our Tuesday morning Masses at 8am. These boys rehearse twice a week, Mondays at lunchtime and Wednesday mornings between 9am and 10am. They also work along with the Lumen and Senior Choir to perform at every major event and Mass during the school year.

SENIOR CHOIR

The Senior Choir consists of boys from Years 7 to 12. The boys rehearse every Monday afternoon from 3.30 to 5pm. This choir has developed quite an extensive repertoire of various musical styles and all works are sung in 4-part harmony. The boys also dedicate their time to all the major events and Masses during the school year working alongside the Lumen and Chapel Choir.
