Traffic Movement Around the College

The procedures are as follows:

  • There will be NO through traffic movement along what was Edgar Street between Fraser Street and Francis Street.
  • The ONLY DROP-OFF ZONE will now be in Fraser Street adjacent to Breen Oval.
  • The entrance to the new Drop-off Zone will be from Shortland Avenue not Edgar Street.
  • When collecting or dropping-off boys it is important that NO CAR come down Edgar Street from Marion Street. All cars are asked to move in a ‘clockwise’ direction – entering from Shortland Avenue and then departing to Marion Street via Edgar Street. Motorists can then choose if they wish to turn to the left to Barker Road, or to the right to Shortland Avenue.

  • Collection and drop-off of boys should be done without any delay. The boy should be ready to alight or board the vehicle immediately. Doing this in less than 15 seconds would be ideal.
  • Drop your boy as close to the top of the zone allowing vehicles following you to enter the designated area.
  • If a place is not immediately available to pick up or drop a boy in Fraser Street then motorists are requested not to ‘double park’ in Fraser Street – it will block the street. Please do not queue in Shortland Avenue or Fraser Street. Proceed around the block and try again.
  • Motorists are not to stop or wait for boys on the corner of Edgar and Fraser Streets – it is a “No Stopping” zone and carries a substantial fine for disobeying the sign.
  • In the mornings and afternoons motorists ARE REQUESTED NOT TO DROP-OFF or PICK-UP boys in either Merley Road or Francis Street between 8.00 and 9.30am and 2.30 and 4.00pm.
  • The School Special buses will now depart from, and set down at, bus bays in Francis Street. We ask that motorists leave this area completely clear in the afternoons between 2.30 and 4.00pm. A new bus layover will be established in Merley Road adjacent to the car park next to the swimming pool. Therefore motorists may NOT wait for a boy there between 2.30pm and 4.00pm.
  • Motorists are asked to strictly observe the new and existing signage. “No Stopping” means just that and all are requested to please obey the signs. The new bus bays and layover must be kept free of all traffic at the times designated on the signs.
  • Motorists are asked not to use Hydebrae Street when travelling to or from the College for safety reasons and as a courtesy to our neighbours in this very narrow street.
  • The Drop-off Zone, Bus Bay and Bus Layover are available for parking and “standing of vehicles” outside the indicated times. This will assist those motorists wishing to collect boys after 4.00pm.
  • Motorists are reminded that both Fraser and Edgar Streets are school 40 km/h zones and that both streets are 'two-way' carriageways. Given the narrowness of Fraser and Edgar Streets, it is recommended that the speed limit be 20 km/h.

Your willingness to follow these simple procedures will help ensure that the new traffic management plan works well and ensure the safety of all who drive around the College. Please ensure that you inform other members of your family and friends of these arrangements.
